As promised, a full review and swatches of my Too Faced Melted Chocolate Milkshake lipstick, as first mentioned in my £100 Too Faced Haul post. This post was voted for on Twitter as the first part of my haul you'd like to see!
The Too Faced Melted Chocolate range was released this past Spring as a spin-off to their classic Melted liquid lipsticks line. Infused with real cocoa powder, I couldn't resist ordering Chocolate Milkshake after I swatched it in-store.
I'll first start with the packaging of this lipstick. Staying true to the classic Too Faced style, the Melted Chocolate Milkshake lipstick is packaged in a cardboard box decorated with gold accents and hearts. I think one of the reasons I love Too Faced just so much is because of all the effort they go to to make their products look completely edible, even before you open the box.
As far as the colour goes, Too Faced have actually done a really good job of matching the packaging colour to the true shade of the lipstick. It's a warm, almost peachy nude. I've compared it in the above photo to MAC's good ol' reliable Velvet Teddy, showing how it is cooler in tone with more neutral undertones than red. It is near identical to the colour of every Shmoo chocolate milkshake I've ever had, giving this shade the absolute perfect name.
But you didn't come to this review for the colour, did you? You saucy bitches, you came to read all about the fact that this lipstick smells like chocolate. And by god, does it smell good. Imagine the smell of a Cadbury Dairy Milk bar as it runs through a chocolate fountain, and you get pretty close to the delicious scent of this lovely lippie. Luckily though the scent doesn't last too long on lips, so I don't actually end up licking my lips (if only...edible lipstick...)
The texture of this Melted lipstick is creamy, yet smooth all at the same time, with no lumps or wateriness. It's thick and chocolatey and awesome. I can't actually say if it has the same texture as the regular Melted lipsticks as I haven't tried any others, but I'll be sure to let you know when I do.
The finish of Melted Chocolate Milkshake is a lovely soft matte, very similar to the NYX soft matte lip creams, however just a little drier. One problem I found is how much this lipstick transfers - onto cups, food, boyfriends... you name it. I'm absolutely gutted as I really wanted to love this lipstick SO MUCH but I always feel a tiny bit self-conscious that it's smeared onto my chin without me realising. I have found a way of minimising this by dusting a tiny bit of powder over lips after the application, then blotting gently with a tissue, however I'm too lazy for that most of the time.
Despite that one little issue, it's such a nice lipstick in a really flattering shade that I'm sure will look good on pretty much all skintones. I'm obsessed with the chocolate scent and the overall texture of this lipstick, even if it can smudge a bit.
Do you own any Melted lipsticks? What do you think?
