Mother's Day - Buy Fragrance, Not Flowers

"Perfume is like a new dress, it makes you quite simply marvellous”
- Estée Lauder

I've been working with Fragrance Direct to completely spoil my mum this Mother's Day with a bottle of the ultimate luxury perfume, Marc Jacobs 'Decadence*.' Their #BuyFragranceNotFlowers campaign for Mother's Day gifts is one that's close to my heart as a high-end perfume lover, and I'm so happy to be able to share it with someone as special as my mum.

My mum, Elaine, isn't your typical idea of what a 'mum' is. She doesn't shop in Marks & Spencers, wouldn't be seen dead without her leather jacket, and she is by no means 'mumsy' in the slightest. In fact the best way to describe her would be by the notes of her signature scent, 'Alien' by Thierry Mugler. She's distinctive and utterly unique, yet comforting and gentle.

My mum is also, like me, a total beauty lover. She can't comprehend spending more than £10 on a lipstick, yet instilled the importance of proper skincare in me from an early age. Whenever we shouted for her from outside the bathroom in the evening, she’d always call back “I’m just taking my makeup off” and be in there another good ten minutes.

As I got older, her solid beauty advice was that no expensive lotions are as good a cleanser as just Dove soap and water, and to “always buy a good moisturiser”. Our bathroom cabinet is never without a bottle of Olay Beauty Fluid - one of the few luxuries she allows herself and a product she has sworn by since she was 13.

My mum absolutely lives for gossip. She insists she has no interest in getting Facebook, yet always wants to know what’s going on, peering over my shoulder asking “who’s that?” when I’m scrolling through Instagram. She also claims to hate her photo being taken, yet a smile beams out from her lovely face in every shot. She's the centre of attention in whatever room she walks into, and everyone wants to be her best friend.

She calls the doctors for me when I’m too scared, and makes my bed on the days I’m at college so I can just jump straight in when I get home. She brings me peanut butter on toast every morning and in the evenings we cuddle up on the sofa, watching whatever crime drama she's into at the moment (most recently it was 'Girlfriends', it was great.)

My mum is much more special to me than just a bunch of flowers, or a card with a bunny on the front. Those things are nice, but they just don't last. My mum has a lasting impression on everyone she meets, and deserves a present that's just as glamorous, bold and head-turning as she is.

So this Mother's Day treat your mum to fragrance, not flowers, from Fragrance Direct's gorgeous selection of Mother's Day gift ideas. There's one for every type of mum, even one as quirky as mine.

Go on, spoil her rotten!

  3. Me and my mum spent almost an hour in a perfume shop the other day picking out fragrances for our birthdays (her's is July 2nd and mine is July 3rd) and I totally agree that perfume is a perfect present. It's quite difficult to find the perfect scent but my mum has always had such a distinctive scent that just reminds me of home. This is such a lovely post, you two are adorable! Hope she has a wonderful mother's day <3

  5. This post is incredibly sweet and lovely to read. I really think I need to write one myself but I think my words would hardly do my Mum justice.
