Review: LUSH Celestial Facial Moisturiser

My skin is combination-oily, yet really dries out in Winter due to a mixture of the cold weather and the air conditioning at work. This time of year I need to start looking for a really creamy, rich moisturiser to repair my skin overnight, so I decided on a whim to pick up a pot of Celestial during my last visit to LUSH.

To start on a negative (sorry) I really, really dislike the pot packaging of this moisturiser. It's far too easy to spill, and when the moisturiser is almost £16 for a tiny pot, that's the last thing I want. The tester in-store was packaged in a small pump bottle which dispensed the perfect amount of product each time, so I definitely think that LUSH should have gone in this direction instead.

The colour of Celestial is nothing special, it's simply a delicate cream shade which adds to the whole appeal of this product for use on sensitive skin. As you can see in the photo, little bits of moisturiser that end up in the grooves of the lid tend to solidify, turn yellow, and just look pretty gross, so I might actually end up de-potting this into an empty toner water bottle.

Scent-wise, this moisturiser smells exactly like 9 To 5 cleansing lotion. I love the gorgeous vanilla and almond notes in this moisturiser, it's very gentle and not an overwhelming scent at all.

I love how thick and creamy this moisturiser is, however I think it's definitely too heavy for use during the day. I do feel as if Celestial sits on my face a little instead of absorbing, so it reminds me more of a cold-cream like Ultrabland in texture.

The amount of product you get in each pot of Celestial seems absolutely tiny compared to the price, but you need to use an absolutely minuscule amount or it becomes very greasy on my oily skin, so I do believe this pot will last me a good while. I probably wouldn't buy this moisturiser again as I really dislike the packaging. I am however intrigued by the Full Of Grace solid serum, so that will be my next LUSH moisturiser purchase.

Have you used a LUSH moisturiser?

  1. I love the Enzymion moisturiser but I have never tried this one. Lush is so good for skincare but definitely not cheap

  3. Oh wow, this doesn’t sound like it fits in a pot! This is one of the rare moisturisers I haven’t tried from Lush yet. I should pick this up just to try when I’m running out of my old ones :-)

  4. I have not tried this product yet. I have eczema and the winter mouths are always so hard on my skin.

  5. I can totally understand what you mean! I think the packaging in the black pots isn’t always great and sometimes they leak really badly too when they don’t seep round the edges. The scent sounds amazing though, at £16 a pot I don’t think I’d buy it x

    1. It's very wasteful in the pot! Makes me wish it was a lot cheaper

  6. I have combination skin which remains pretty oily, even through winter! It sounds like this would be a little too thick and greasy for my skin, and would sit for longer than wanted! It’s such a huge amount for such a small product too.. 😶

    1. Same here!! It's a very heavy and thick moisturiser, however I've experimented with steaming my face first then applying and it absorbs loads better! My face doesn't feel greasy after using it now, just hydrated and soft

  7. I'm not a fan of pot packaging either. Thanks for the review!

  8. I totally agree with your point about the packaging! My pots always get so dirty because they leak out!

  9. I am always intrigued by Lush products. Everyone seems absolutely obsessed with them. The packaging isn't great indeed and I am not sure I would buy the moisturizer. I can't have something to heavy on my skin xx corinne

  10. This seems like a good rescue moisturiser for me when my skin really dries out. It is a shame about the packaging but hopefully you will be able to depot it and save some spillage.

    1. I'm planning on de-potting it into a toner bottle when I'm done, hopefully it goes ok!
