Review: LUSH Buck's Fizz Body Conditioner

This time of year, nobody looks forward to standing in a freezing bathroom after a shower for any longer than absolutely necessary. It's one of life's cruellest choices - either risk frostbite from trying to apply body lotion as fast as possible, or skip the entire ordeal and end up with dry, chapped skin as a result of the cold weather anyway. I'd always scorned LUSH's body conditioners until faced with this very dilemma, which is when I realised how absolutely genius they really are.

I received Buck's Fizz body conditioner for my birthday, but wasn't actually sure how much use I'd get out of it. I'd been religiously using The Comforter body lotion all month, and to be brutally honest never really saw the point of a body 'conditioner' to begin with. Surely body lotion did the job just fine, without it all having to be washed down the drain?

Annoyingly I was proved wrong (which I hate) but all is forgiven as I absolutely adore this body conditioner. Just by chance I first used Buck's Fizz on an absolutely freezing cold evening and I ended realising exactly what the point of it was. There was no chance I wanted to get out of that shower and apply body lotion with my extremities all naked and shivering in the cold (cute) so instead I enjoyed a Brazilian orange hug and some in-shower moisturising thanks to Buck's Fizz.

As you can see in the above photo, Buck's Fizz is the most incredible neon orange coloured lotion. I'm kind of glad you do rinse it off after applying as I'm so pale I feel like the colour would stain slightly! As well as looking like a juicy, ripe mandarin orange, Buck's Fizz also smells exactly like one due to containing Brazilian orange oil, orange blossom water, pink grapefruit and fresh orange juice. It's positively delicious.

I love how this product actually works too. I apply it in the shower whilst I'm waiting for my conditioner to soak in, and when I rinse it off it feels as if I had applied a body lotion 15 minutes earlier. It has the same soft, almost sticky sensation of when a body lotion first begins to sink in, which is not what I expected at all from a product that rinses off!

I know a lot of people use body conditioners the same way as lotions, by just applying them onto dry skin as normal, but Buck's Fizz does feel very greasy when first applied, and so definitely needs to be washed off to reap the full rewards of this body conditioner.

Although incredibly powerful at first (my sister came into my bedroom to tell me just how incredible the bathroom smelled) the scent doesn't last all that long on skin. I'm used to my skin still being lightly scented when I wake up after using a body lotion, however unfortunately there was no trace left of Buck's Fizz the next morning. This hasn't put me off body conditioners though, and I'm already considering a cheeky purchase of the Snow Fairy one (even though I promised myself I wouldn't!)

What's really cool is that this year the body conditioners are available in 'naked' versions, as well as the usual black pots, which is fantastic if you're trying to reduce the amount of packaging you use. I am however a massive fan of returning the black pots for a free face mask, so I'll be sticking to the liquid versions.

Have you tried a body conditioner before?

  1. I've never tried a body conditioner before but I'm all about keeping moisturised in the Winter without getting cold so this sounds like a great shout. Bucks Fizz reminds me of Christmas so this may be perfect for the festive season!

  3. See I prefer their sleepy body lotion as unlike this one the smell really does last a long time, but I'm glad you liked it otherwise :)
