6 Tips For Beautiful Blog Photos

Something I'm hugely passionate about is making sure my blog is filled with lots of lovely photographs. I am definitely not an expert photographer, but I've learnt so much in the last year and have received so many compliments on my blog photos, I thought it would be worth sharing these 6 tips for beautiful blog photos.

Nothing screams 'newbie blogger' more than bad photos and they are always the first thing I notice whenever I click on a blog.  By 'bad' I mean photos that are too dark, poorly composed, or just don't have the 'look'. Hopefully, these tips will inspire you to up your photography game and start crafting beautiful blog photos.

1. Keep it simple

Good quality blog photos are all about presenting a lifestyle through clean, bright shots, soft colours and pretty backgrounds. They need to look effortless, like you 'just so happened' to place that perfume bottle on your white IKEA desk with fairy lights strewn in the background. Don't try too hard to use every prop imaginable, and keep it simple for the most effective photos.

2. Set your standards high

The best tip I can give is to set yourself incredibly high standards when it comes to your photography - don't settle for anything less than your idea of perfection. I re-take and edit my photos again and again until I finally deem them good enough to be on my blog. If they don't look good to you, they sure as hell won't look good to someone who stumbles onto your blog.

3. Find your inspiration

Check out the photos of your favourite blogs (I always recommend A Girl, Obsessed - she's my idol) and makes notes on how they just look 'right'. Is it the angles? The softness of the lighting? Have they used intriguing textures or patterns? Let their photos inspire you, but don't copy them (that just makes you a bit of a knob.)

4. Play with angles

Not every photo has to be a flat lay, you can capture some gorgeous images by just changing the angle you take your photo at. I often lay flat on my stomach whilst taking photos on my bed, moving my camera and props at different angles whilst looking for the perfect shot.

5. White space is key

Lots of white space keeps your photos looking fresh and airy, don't clutter your photos with too many props. When I first started taking photos, I placed my products in the empty bathtub so as to have a pure white background. I then upgraded to two white floating shelves and a piece of cardboard, and now finally I do have the IKEA desk of my blogging dreams. You just have to fake it 'til you make it.

6. You don't need an expensive camera

Lots of bloggers confess to using their iPhone cameras to take their blog photos. I personally have never found my 5S's camera to be up to standard, so instead I use my dad's basic Fujifilm camera, but before this I used a practically prehistoric Canon PowerShot A810. Eventually I would love to upgrade to a proper camera (I'm eyeing up an Olympus Pen) but what I'm using works for now.

What are your best photography tips?

  9. I'm a newbie blogger so I hope mine aren't that bad haha! I'm actually using the NIKON D7200 for my photographs, and a white piece of paper for a backdrop - I picked this up on pinterest a year ago, and just kind of stuck with it x

  12. I've recently discovered my love for photography. I've always loved looking at pretty photos and when my husband got me a canon 700D for Christmas it really made me up my game.
I think lighting is such a big factor too when it comes to getting "perfect" pictures.
