Review: LUSH American Pie Shower Jelly

LUSH's American Cream conditioner is my favourite scent in the entire world. If I was left alone with a bottle and no adult supervision, I'd probably eat it, that's how delicious it is. So when I saw the LUSH Kitchen had created a batch of shower jellies with the same gorgeous scent, I had to snap one up ASAP.

For me, American Pie was 100% an impulse buy. I'd never planned to obtain the shower jelly, let alone even heard of it until I loaded up Instagram and saw a photo of it uploaded by the LUSH kitchen account. The second I saw that photo and read the caption, I wanted it. I needed it. I bought it.

As always with LUSH products, the packaging is super simple to reduce as much waste as possible and encourage recycling. Packaged in a clear plastic tub, you can straight away see the fabulous pink colour of the shower jelly shining through. It's truly a delight to behold.

The black stickers on the front and the lid of the packaging state how "you'll never want to say bye bye Miss American Pie to these aromatic vanilla, lathers" and that you should "prepare to fall in love." I love all the puns that LUSH incorporate into their products - it makes them so unique and memorable.

As previously mentioned, the colour of this shower jelly is a delicous bright, sugary pink! It's honestly the perfect shade of pink, the colour of strawberry milkshake, and I want my bedroom decorated in it right away. The scent is almost the same as the beautiful conditioner, however has an almost plasticky edge to it, which is a bit of a let-down in all honesty when compared to how amazing the conditioner smells.

I've never tried a shower jelly before, and so I was pleasantly surprised by the texture, it's just so wobbly - I absolutely adore it! 'Jelly' suits this product perfectly as it's smooth, however once you pierce the shiny coating of the jelly, the texture becomes almost fluffy as it begins to break down, just like real jelly. (Remember being a kid at a birthday party and smashing your jelly with a spoon until it went into little pieces? It's exactly like that.)

I actually found American Pie quite hard to use as it was my first experience with a shower jelly. I first tried holding it in my hands and rubbing it all over my body, but the slippery little sucker kept shooting out of my grip. Instead, I found it better to create a lather by rubbing a shower puff over the surface of the jelly whilst it was still in the tub. It doesn't lather up amazingly, but I prefer to use it as something to scent my skin rather than actually clean it.

I wouldn't buy this product again as it is, however I still think it's something nice to own, especially as it was from the LUSH Kitchen. It's also made me desperate to get my hands on some American Cream perfume so that I can enjoy the scent all over me, but I'm not in a rush to try another shower jelly.

Do you use shower jellies? What do you think?

  1. I do love lush but I haven't tried one of the shower jellies before - it does sound interesting although I don't think I'd purchase one despite that it's pink...
