Illamasqua #VeganBeautyMasterclass Blogger Event

Last Wednesday myself and Miya were lucky enough to be invited to the Illamasqua Vegan Beauty Masterclass in Meadowhall. Always eager at the chance to play with makeup and meet up with fellow bloggers, we jumped at the opportunity.

I've been interested in Vegan beauty for a few months now and I have already begun phasing non-cruelty free skincare and shower products from my routine, however makeup is something I've not yet branched into.

As soon as we got to the stand we were presented with strawberries and Vegan marshmallows along with glasses of Elderflower fizz. Not quite pastries and Buck's fizz (thanks, Benefit *wink*) but yummy all the same.

We were presented with gorgeous gift boxes, which outranked any goodie bag by far. They contained a full sized black liquid eyeliner *YAAAAASSS* and a sample of matte primer, two things which I have run out of recently and I shall be reviewing them shortly!

I've never been to an Illamasqua stand or shopped from them before, which was made exceptionally clear when I realised it wan't pronounced 'llama-suca', but I was amazed at the huge range of products in front of me and mentally kicked myself for not discovering them sooner. They have twenty seven shades of their Skin Base foundation. Twenty seven. Guuurrrrrllll...

The main focus of the night was watching demonstrations of how the Vegan makeup was used by the lovely Farys, who had the most stunning highlight I have ever seen. I wouldn't exactly call it a 'masterclass' as it was described, but it was very informational on the ethics of the brand, how they source their ingredients and what goes into each product.

We were shown two 'looks', the first was a casual, every day look consisting of a soft brown smoky eye and warm mauve lips. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get any photos as I was sat quite far back and my camera is rubbish!

The second look was really fun. As Illamasqua is PETA and Leaping Buny certified, she created a bunny-themed look on her beautiful model using white eyeliner for freckles and luscious pink lipstick in the shade 'Luster.'

During the demonstration, several product were passed around to allow us to photograph and play with. One product I absolutely fell in love with was the Radiance Veil primer. It was so silky and shimmery, I would have bought it straight away just from swatching it if it wasn't £32 *cry*.

Another product I loved was the Beyond Powder highlighter in OMG, the same shade Farys was wearing and is shown in the above picture. Second to the Urban Decay's Naked Illuminated, it is the sparkliest highlighter I have ever laid eyes on.

And sparkles are good.
But now, onto the part you actually wanted to read about - The huge Illamasqua Disaster which came about the very same day. I mentioned the awesome foundation that came in twenty seven shades. Well silly ole' me thought out of that many shades there would actually be one that suited me, and so I asked to be colour matched.

Big mistake.

It started out ok. The Skin Base foundation in shade 2 matched my jawline perfectly (always a good thing) however it was when she began to apply the foundation all over my face that this century's biggest makeup cock-up happened... I became white. Totally white. There wasn't a scrap of colour on my entire face, which face somehow whiter than my neck. I turned to Miya to ask how it looked and she just stared at me in horror whilst mouthing 'What the f...'

You know what I did? I ran out of Debenhams, into John Lewis, up to the Benefit counter and practically begged the girl to fix my face. Looking back it was absolutely hilarious - me almost in tears telling a Benebabe "This may sound weird, but please help me" whilst she was practically doubled-over laughing. However good things come from bad situations. The Benebabe, Jessica, totally fixed my face for me using the Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation in a shade that actually made me 'look alive' as she put it. She wasn't wrong. I bought the foundation.

So overall, it was a good evening, and my review of the Benefit foundation is already up for reading. Phew. What a kerfuffle.
